ISLAM in Action

In the Name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful

As-Salaamu Alaikunna, Dearest Sisters in Islam!

As President of ISLAMin Action, I want to officially clarify our response and treatment of other groups working for the Cause of Allah. When we started our organization, we knew we faced challenges...from within and from without. We cannot let these challenges separate us from our mission statement. And we have to apply that mission statement to ourselves before anyone else: help humanity through education and services with guidance from Qur'an, Sunnah and the understanding of the companions.

1. We are inclusive. You may join (or leave) our group at anytime. You need not be a certain race, creed, religion or belong to a specific Masjid to participate in our activities (being a woman, however, is kinda' a must).

The exception to this rule is for Committee Chairpersons who must be Muslim and approved by the President of ISLAM in Action via Shurah (council) from other Chairs and community members. (The woman thing still goes, however.)

2. We work for the Cause of Allah, not for revenge, greed, name recognition, spite or any other tool of shaytan to separate us from sisterhood and Allah. Focus. It's who we are.

3. We do not hold grudges, malign, work to defeat or otherwise sabotage any effort by any person or group to truly serve Allah by serving the community.

4. We hold fast to the Rope of Allah and make du'aa for every effort of the Muslim to be rightly guided and purely intended.

5. We respect other groups and their membership to the extent possible in that we try not to schedule events simultaneously, try not to coerce members away from their group of choice, try not to prevent others from joining their group of choice and try not to encourage others to avoid events, activities, et cetera sponsored by any group.

6. We do not, however, knowingly allow the unchecked propagation of mis-information or harm to our brothers and sisters in Islam. Allowing or helping fitnah merely because a group sticks the label "Muslim" on their efforts is not respectful or acceptable.

We will not interfere with other groups' happenings but if we are aware of un-Islamic activity (incorrect knowledge, incorrect adaab, incorrect actions and Allah Alone Judges intentions), we will contact that group with our concerns. If there is no response, we will contact other appropriate members of the community to help address our concerns.

7. We do not operate in secret. Meetings are open to everyone, even those solely intended for Committee Chairpersons. We do not avoid contacting anyone in the community with our events if they wish to be notified. We answer all requests for information regarding ourselves (to the extent necessary), our group (fully), our goals (fully) and any actions we take on behalf of our group (fully).

8. We do not hold ourselves above our own stated treatment and response to others. If I.S.L.A.M. in Action, under my leadership, is committing sin, we openly ask the community - every member of the community - to bring that to our attention for the Sake of Allah. And as a personal note, I ask each of my sisters and brothers in Islam to directly correct my efforts with confidence in my thankfulness for your help.

We will not be successful if we listen to the call of shaytan but we will be successful if we obey the Command of Allah. Let us refuse to allow ISLAM in Action to be brought to the level of forgetting who we are...servants of and to Allah.

Will you give your pledge with me?

Let us embody these standards and expect them of each other. Ameen.
